About the Show

Saucy Jack's is a cabaret bar and pick-up joint on the seedier side of the backwater planet of Frottage III. Here a vagabond cast of cabaret artistes perform twice nightly for a clientele who, largely, are far more interested in their own clandestine affairs than the entertainment laid on by their host, the alluring and enigmatic Saucy Jack himself.

However, all is not well at Saucy Jack's - danger lurks in every corner. Jack's cabaret performers are being picked off one by one by a ruthless serial killer - the only clue is the heel of a sequinned Slingback thrust into the chest of each victim. But, in true showbiz fashion, the show must go on!

We invite you to join us for a fun packed evening at Saucy Jack's Cabaret Bar. Sit back, enjoy a cocktail and watch the action unfold.

For the answers to these, and other questions come and see Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens at Hitchin's Queen Mother Theatre, 19-24 September 2005. Book early to avoid disappointment.

You'll have fun… and that's a promise!

Show History

Back in 1995 a group of 4 ex-students of the University of Kent set out to stage a production of Leonard Bernstein's "Candide" at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. There was only one small problem - there was another production of Candide already booked at the Fringe by their promoter! "Have you got anything else?" he asked. "Oh sure" they lied "we'll send you the outline tomorrow". They had no play in mind let alone an outline to send but, unperturbed, they set to with a vengeance to write not only a brand new show, but a brand new musical and so it was that Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens was born.

If this all sounds like a recipe for disaster you'd normally be right. But, Lady Luck seemed to be smiling and Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens not only was written, but opened and played to full houses. In fact, so popular was the show that by the second week people were commuting to Edinburgh from London to see it. The show was not only popular but received critical acclaim collecting a Fringe First Award and had the reviewer from The Scotsman billing the show as "a hymn to individual freedom".

In the years that followed, the show had further sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and, in 1998, a run in London's West End. The show has gone Stateside having been staged in Vermont, Anchorage, Kansas City, Seattle and Los Angeles. It's even survived translation into a foreign language where, as "The Space Vixens", it sold out a two-week run that had to be extended to four at the Glitch Theatre in Oslo, Norway. Everywhere the show goes it proves a hit with the audience and now, in its 10th Anniversary year, Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens comes to the market town of Hitchin, Hertfordshire. So, dust of your best disco clobber, your boots & your bubble-wrap and groove on down to the Queen Mother Theatre for the funkiest show in town. Rumour has it there'll be a prize for the best dressed member of the audience each night!!
